To qualify for a Travel Award, applicants must:

  • Be currently registered within a graduate level program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) at the University of Toronto.
  • Provide a cover letter that:
    • contains his or her name, contact information, DLSPH program, and his or her program director’s contact information,
    • clearly indicates how the presentation and attendance at the selected conference will contribute to furthering his/her studies, and
    • sufficiently indicates how her or his scholarly work will contribute to public health research and practice.
  • Submit (a) a copy of his or her submitted abstract; (b) conference details (title, date, location); (c) official, written confirmation of abstract acceptance to the conference; and (d) proposed budget and expenses.
  • Provide a realistic proposed budget, outlining her or his conference expenses.
  • Demonstrate attempts to secure additional funding where possible (e.g. via supervisors, employers, and other student bursaries), and indicate the type and amount of such funding sought or received from other sources.
  • Not have previously presented her or his abstract at another conference.
  • Deliver a poster or oral presentation in Canada or an oral / podium presentation out of country (out-of-country poster presentations are not eligible).
  • Present within four months of the PHAA award application deadline (either before or after the deadline).
  • Not have received a PHAA travel award within the past 24 months. PhD candidates are eligible for up to two awards, and Masters-level applicants for a single award per degree program.
