This course aims to provide students with knowledge and analytical skills to assess the effects of large-scale programs and policies on health outcomes. We will cover a comprehensive set of methodological approaches for impact evaluation, including experimental and quasi-experimental study designs. Experimental designs will include randomized, cluster-randomized and stepped-wedge trials. Quasi-experimental designs will include difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, and regression discontinuity. In addition, we will cover some practical aspects of implementing evaluations, including integration of qualitative methods, data sources for impact evaluation, and fieldwork challenges.
