A reminder of the FREE presentation that I’m helping to organize at St. Michael’s Hospital this Friday at 11:30am. Dr. Alexander Lebel and his students from Université Laval will be speaking for 45 minutes about how they have been using impact assessment tools to engage urban planners and better integrate health promotion in Québec municipalities. Plenty of time to have a topical discussion about how we can use the HEIA tool and other approaches to do more “intersectoral action” in Toronto and elsewhere in the province. We’ve got a big, accessible space and a nice crowd signed up to come. Please join us!

Alexandre Lebel, PhD, is a geographer from Université Laval who studies social and spatial health disparities, and teaches public health at the Graduate School of Urban Planning and Land Management. His research program includes work on obesity prevention at the Québec Heart and Lung Institute Research Center, and he is working actively with Québec’s municipalities to implement health impact assessment (HIA) in the urban planning process.

In this presentation, Dr. Lebel and his research team will talk about their experiences using HIA to engage local stakeholders and influence the urban planning process in Québec City and Victoriaville.
