Join us for a public symposium on October 29!

Distinguished Visiting Entrepreneur
The Impact Centre is launching the Distinguished Visiting Entrepreneur (DVE) series during the final event of our UNESCO International Year of Light (IYL) series. The inaugural DVE, Dr. Whitehead, is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia, holds more than 100 patents and has commercialized numerous technologies arising from his research. Most recently, he is the founder and Chief Technology Officer of SunCentral Inc, which has developed methods to bring natural sunlight into buildings and rooms that would otherwise not have access to natural light.

In addition to a lecture by Dr. Whitehead, the event will also introduce to the public the Impact Centre’s Global Lighting Challenge project. Reliable lighting has a significant impact on education, prosperity, and security around the world. Over the course of the past year, the Impact Centre community has been developing a practical, cost-effective lighting system for low-resource settings to help ensure access to a reliable overhead light source. We are excited to showcase the amazing work that has been done, and particularly as we plan the deployment of the system in rural areas across the Philippines.
