This seminar consists of an examination of the current level of ethics in Mental Health care. This will include a historical analysis including recent and prospective Mental Health Legislation. The contribution of people with lived experience of mental illness will be examined as well as advocacy by families and other organizations. Cross currents of societal changes will be discussed to assess the direction in which the system is heading. In the latter section, the factors which would need to be in place to heighten ethical care will be identified and in conclusion an overall assessment of the future in this area will be considered.
