Dr. Young is an Adjunct Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.  For the first half of his career he was a general practitioner in Surrey, BC where he served on several hospital committees and also on the BC Medical Association’s (now the Doctors of BC) Environmental Health Committee.  After completing a Master’s degree in Community Health and Epidemiology and medical specialization in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Toronto, as well as a Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in the mid-1990s he served as the Associate Medical Officer of Health in Scarborough.  Subsequently he was the Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer for the province of Saskatchewan and later the Deputy Provincial Health Officer for British Columbia.

He has served on a wide variety of provincial and national committees.  He is also an Adjunct Professor, School of Epidemiology and Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, and member of the Public Health Physicians of Canada council.
