Biography

Mary Lou Finlay is an award-winning Canadian writer and broadcaster with more than 35 years experience in reporting, documentary production and voice-over; also in producing, writing and hosting radio and television current affairs programmes, including Live It Up at CTV and Take 30, Finlay and Company, and the award-winning Journal, Sunday Morning and As It Happens programmes at CBC. She has an undergraduate degree in English and French literature from the University of Ottawa and an honorary Doctor of Laws from Dalhousie University. From 1985 to 1986, she was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.

Finlay is also the author of The As It Happens Files: This Radio May Contain Nuts, a memoir of her latter years at CBC, published by Knopf in 2008. Since leaving the CBC she has been a reader with AMI (Accessible Media), led media workshops with Action Canada and served on the board of the Institute for Research into Public Policy.
