Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award competition.

The Cressy Awards, established in 1994 in partnership with the UTAA, recognize students who have made outstanding extra-curricular contributions to their college, faculty, program, or the University as a whole. The award is named for Gordon Cressy, former Vice-President of Development and University Relations, in recognition of his commitment to higher education and his exemplary volunteer service. Students selected as award recipients embody the qualities of leadership and dedication demonstrated by Gordon Cressy during his time with the university.

To be eligible for a 2019 Cressy Award, students must:

  • Be nominated by a member of the University community (i.e. staff, faculty, alumni or students).
  • Be expected to complete all courses and convocate between September and August of the current academic year;
  • Have never received a Cressy Award previously during their academic career; and
  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 (B-) at the end of the previous academic session prior to the opening of the nomination period. Exceptions to this requirement may be considered only under extraordinary circumstances.

A nominee should have at least TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS of volunteer leadership in the years immediately prior to the current nomination periodA nominee should have reached a minimum threshold of at least one year of volunteer leadership in the form of any one, or a combination, of the following:

  • Leadership on committees or influence on student or university affairs;
  • Improvement in the quality of life of students;
  • Contributions to the co-curricular experience;
  • Leadership directly facilitating the engagement of fellow students in U of T’s extra-curricular activities; and
  • Contribution to the sense of community at U of T.

Other points to consider when nominating a candidate:

  • Leadership and involvement in relation to academic achievement at U of T;
  • The value of the student’s contribution, rather than the office or position held;
  • Contributions made as part of a paid position are not eligible; and
  • Priority will be given to U of T-related volunteer roles. Volunteer leadership outside the University community will be considered, but only as a complement to contributions within the University community.

Any member of the University community (i.e. staff, faculty, alumni or students) may nominate a candidate using the 2019 Nomination Form .

Please email your nomination packages to awards.dlsph@utoronto.ca by 11:59 pm on November 14th, 2018. Late or incomplete nominations will not be considered. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please ensure your nominations are complete and are submitted by the deadline.
