Arjumand Siddiqi appointed Epidemiology Division Head

Arjumand Siddiqi was appointed Head of the Division of Epidemiology in the Graduate Department of Public Health Sciences at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health on March 20, 2020.

Siddiqi is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Canada Research Chair in Population Health Equity. She also holds appointments in U of T’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and Department of Sociology, as well as at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Siddiqi joined DLSPH in 2010. Her work focuses on the societal conditions that produce health inequities. She also teaches Social Determinants of Health and Social Epidemiology courses. Siddiqi received her Sc.D. in Social Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.

In the role of Epidemiology Division Head, Siddiqi will be responsible for strategic planning, mentoring junior faculty and working with the Division’s faculty and Dean’s Office to ensure that the Division’s teaching, research and service needs are met. She will join the DLSPH Senior Administrator Team and work closely with Dean Adalsteinn Brown to enhance epidemiology teaching, learning and research within the DLSPH community.

Siddiqi will take on the role following Professor David Fisman’s tenure as division head. Professor Fisman will continue to teach and supervise students while focusing on his federally funded research in mathematical and statistical modelling to forecast the near-term course of COVID-19.

Assistant Professor Jennifer Brooks is the new MPH Epidemiology Program lead and Associate Professor Laura Rosella will continue her role as PhD Epidemiology Program Director.
