DLSPH welcomes Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco as part-time Assistant Professor, Learning Innovation

Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco was appointed as a part-time Assistant Professor, Learning Innovation at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health on July 2, 2020.
Francisco is nationally recognized for excellence in pedagogy and educational leadership, and for his ability to inspire and connect through innovative and inclusive teaching. His priority this year will be providing support for faculty across DLSPH redesign courses, programs, and specializations for remote and hybrid delivery.
Francisco will work closely with Professor Dionne Gesink, Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, Obadiah George (Education Technologist), Adrian Gomez (Information Systems and Technology Administrator), and all DLSPH and IHPME faculty to review and redesign (as appropriate) courses, programs, and specializations for remote and hybrid delivery.
This new role complements the many faculty supports that DLSPH has launched to help with the transition to online learning, including the Online Teaching Resources website, weekly webinars (Hybrid Wednesdays and Transformational Thursdays), and a DLSPH Helpdesk to support IT and educational technology questions.

Francisco has considerable expertise in classroom, distance education (online and blended) curriculum design, instructional design, implementation and learning evaluation. He’s also led a variety of online and blended educational projects for emerging researchers and health-related non-profit community leaders in Canada and globally.
Francisco joined the DLSPH in 2019 as an adjunct lecturer. He previously taught an undergraduate course in HIV Prevention Research and held an adjunct lecturer appointment in U of T’s Department of Physical Therapy.
Since 2017, Francisco was a Senior Research Associate at St. Michael’s Hospital’s Centre for Urban Health Solutions, which is based in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. In this role, he led an in-depth training program for emerging health researchers in Canada. From 2012 to 2017, he was Director of Education and Training at the Ontario HIV Treatment Network.
As a faculty member with extensive experience in teaching, HIV community-based research, health services delivery, and health systems, Francisco is well-positioned to help faculty across DLSPH navigate what they want to teach and how to teach it in ways that align with their teaching pedagogy.
He will also help ensure that all programs (including specializations and collaborative programs) remain adaptable to changing work conditions during COVID-19. Francisco will also coordinate with staff and faculty working on academic continuity planning and watch for synergies that can support and advance the work of students, faculty and staff across the School.
