Title: Ethics and Caregiving for Persons with Cancer

Abstract: Ethics in cancer caregiving must be understood not only at the individual level but also within broader health and social systems. Caregivers and clinicians often navigate institutional barriers, fragmented services, and inequities that shape patient and family experiences. In Canada, cancer caregivers face significant challenges and often struggle to cope. This lecture explores how an ethics and disability rights lens and an integrated care framework can inform more accessible, coordinated, and inclusive cancer care. It highlights the collaborative role of caregivers and clinicians as partners—supporting patients while advocating together for more just and effective person-centered care.

Speaker:

Liv Mendelsohn, MA, MEd. Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Care giving Excellence, Senior Fellow, Massey College
