University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics Seminar Series 2020-21

Speakers:

Dolly Menna-Dack, Clinical Bioethicist, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital

Aman Sium, Director Client & Family Integrated Care, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital

Cara Sudoma, Infection Prevention and Control Practice Lead, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital

About this Seminar:

On March 20, 2020 the Toronto Region COVID-19 Hospital Operations Table issued a recommendation for visitor restrictions. As a result, Holland Bloorview communicated with clients and families that beginning March 25 all clients would be restricted to 1 designated family caregiver visitor and 1 designated alternate. In order to continue to meet the needs of our clients and families while ensuring a safe environment for everyone at the hospital, a Family Caregiver Presence Policy, grounded in ethical principles and co-designed, with client, family and hospital stakeholders was created and implemented.

This presentation seeks to share our process and implementation of the policy, explore perceived tensions between Client & Family Centred-Care and Infection Prevention and Control practices and discuss lessons learned through phase 1 and 2 of the pandemic.

This event is free and is open to the general public. The direct link to the seminar will be sent out to registered participants 2 hours before the event.
