Presented by the University of Toronto and Warwick University Global Health and Human Rights Training Program and the Faculty of Law Health Law, Policy, and Ethics Seminar Series
What happens when health systems fail—and instead violate—the rights of those they’re meant to protect?
In this talk, Allan Maleche shares insights from over a decade of advocacy and litigation at the intersection of public health and law in Kenya. Drawing on landmark cases involving coerced tubal ligation of women living with HIV, obstetric violence, and digital health rights through the Digital Health and Rights Project (DHRP), Allan explores how legal and human rights tools can drive dignity, equity, and accountability in public health.
Rooted in Kenya’s experience but relevant globally, this conversation invites reflection on how we reimagine justice in an evolving world—especially as civic and human rights spaces continue to shrink.
