Title: Cancer risk among firefighters in the Norwegian Fire Departments Cohort

Firefighters are exposed to a variety of known and suspected carcinogens through their work. However, the association with cancer risk has limited evidence. The project “Cancer risk among firefighters” began in 2017 as a collaboration between the Cancer Registry of Norway and the National Institute of Occupational Health to explore work-related cancer risk among firefighters. Through this study and with the cooperation of fire departments, a cohort of firefighters who worked at 15 fire departments in Norway between 1950 and 2018 was established. This seminar will present background on this research project and cohort, and present the results from the first part of this ongoing study which has investigated cancer incidence among firefighters in sites with established associations to known carcinogens that firefighters face through their work.
