About this event:
Title: Emerging sources of air pollution exposure: wildfires, cannabis and indoor sources
For the past decades, air pollution regulations have been highly successful in reducing fossil fuel combustion sources. On the other hand, particles and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from unregulated, emerging sources now have greater impacts on the air we breathe. In this presentation, Dr. Chan will discuss his group’s work on examining the potential health effects of wildfire smoke, and the changing mix of VOCs from indoor sources, including cannabis smoke, and how they impact air pollutant exposures.
Speaker: Dr. Arthur Chan
Dr. Arthur Chan is a Professor in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at University of Toronto. His research interests are on the chemistry of organic compounds in the atmosphere and potential human health impacts. The group uses laboratory experiments to study specific mechanisms and emissions, and make field measurements to understand real world chemistry.
