This seminar features two presentations on public health research in China.
The first presentation, delivered by Ms. Yan Zhuang from the School of Public Health, Health Science Center, Xi’an Jiaotong University, is titled “Assessing the Quality of Primary Healthcare for Asthma in China: Evidence from Unannounced Standardized Patients.” This presentation examines the real-world quality of asthma care in Chinese primary healthcare settings using unannounced standardized patient visits across seven provinces. The study evaluates care across five dimensions: effectiveness, safety, patient-centeredness, timeliness, and efficiency. The findings show suboptimal performance in history-taking, physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment, with an overall correct diagnosis rate of 47.1%. Care quality varied substantially by region, institution type, and clinician characteristics. These findings highlight the need to strengthen primary care capacity, improve standardized asthma diagnosis and treatment, and reduce inequalities in care quality across settings in China.
The second presentation, delivered by Ms. Shuxian Wu from the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, is titled “Exploring the Optimal Cut-Off Point of Physical Activity for the Prevention of Childhood Overweight and Obesity.” The talk explores the relationship between physical activity and overweight and obesity among children and adolescents. It identifies an optimal physical activity threshold and provides evidence to support healthy weight management in youth.
