This presentation will provide a synthesis of the current state of research on the use of “psychedelics” for therapeutic purposes, first drawing an important distinction between psychedelic-assisted therapy and the use of entheogens in a ritualist context. Research in both aspects has experienced a renaissance, presenting both exciting opportunities and multiple challenges from a research design perspective as well as the pathway ahead for regulation, practice and policy development for both clinical applications and public health. Current efforts to engage researchers, practitioners and policy makers will also be summarized.
