In advance of National Immunization Awareness Week 2024, the Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (CVPD) is proud to present a screening of the award-winning documentary ‘Hilleman: A Perilous Quest to Save the World’s Children.’

The documentary details the inspiring life of Dr. Maurice R. Hilleman — a scientist who was instrumental in the development of vaccines for pandemic flu, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, chickenpox, meningococcus, and pneumococcus. Hilleman developed more than 40 vaccines in his lifetime, and was the first person to combine viral vaccines when he created the MMR vaccine. Despite immense contributions to science, he never became a household name. The New York Times deemed Hilleman “a forgotten pioneer of vaccines” and his work is estimated to save eight million lives every year.

Bring your lunch and join us on Tuesday, April 16 to learn more about Hilleman’s contributions to immunization and enjoy some free snacks. Space is limited. Get your tickets today!
