About this Seminar:

This presentation will explore the topic of licit substance use within physical rehabilitation settings. Patients in rehab may want to remain on or leave hospital premises to engage in licit (e.g., smoking cigarettes, cannabis, drinking alcohol) and/or illicit (e.g., using heroin) activities. Healthcare organizations’ responses to these activities differ depending on existing policies, staff members’ values and beliefs, clinical contraindications, and/or the patient(s) involved. During this presentation, we will consider circumstances under which it may be ethically defensible to permit patients to use licit substances in rehabilitation contexts. While the content of this presentation may be transferable to other healthcare spaces, our focus on rehab is based on some important distinctions that exist between rehabilitation and acute care spaces.

This event is free and is open to the general public.
