Presenter: Dr. Darren Brenner

Darren Brenner is an Assistant professor in the Departments of Oncology and Community Health at the University of Calgary. He is the Armstrong Investigator in the Molecular Epidemiology of Cancer at the Cumming School of Medicine. Since 2019 Darren has been the Associate Director of Research for the Forzani McPhail Colorectal Cancer Screening Centre in Calgary. Darren is also the Current Co-Chair for Canadian Cancer Statistics Advisory Committee and the Lead for the Projections and Methods Sub-committees.

Title: Cancer Prevention in Canada – What do we know and what can we do?

This presentation will include highlights from several national research projects aimed at understanding the potential impact of cancer prevention in Canada. Data describing the magnitude of preventable cancer incidence and mortality from modifiable environmental, infectious and lifestyle exposures will be presented. The economic impacts on cancer management costs related to modifiable exposures will also be highlighted. Finally, how these data can be useful to drive of action at the policy, practice and personal levels will be discussed.
