Title: Urinary exposures and potential health risks among e-waste recycling workers in Hong Kong

Electronic waste (e-waste) production has increased rapidly in Hong Kong and worldwide. With the launch of a new producer responsibility scheme by Hong Kong government in 2018, more e-waste has to be diverted into the local recycling industry. There is no exposure and health data among e-waste workers in Hong Kong. This OEH research seminar presents novel findings of urinary exposures and their associations with potential health risks among e-waste recycling workers in Hong Kong. This project implies that attention should be paid to the potential DNA damage stimulated by such as OPEs under the currently recommended thresholds. The project is collaborating with Prof. Victoria Arrandale of Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto*.

*The project is funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (General Research Fund no. 14604020), lnt’I Tripartite Collaboration to Advance Exposome Research-Innovative Public Health Exposome Global Projects and Big Data Approach of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Ref.: E.C./2017/006), and Strategic Seed Funding for Collaborative Research Scheme 2022–23, Ref.: TL/SSFCRS2223/0953/ 23ww.
