This study will evaluate a new HIV prevention intervention to reduce HIV risk, social anxiety, and problematic substance use among MSM

Eligibility

• Live in Ontario – Be able to travel to Toronto Metropolitan University (travel compensation available)
• Be HIV-negative
• Be over 18 years of age
• Have had anal sex without a condom or the use of PrEP with a man who was either 1) HIV-positive or 2) of unknown HIV status
• Have had this type of sex at least once in the past 3 months
• Have experienced social anxiety in the past month
• Have used alcohol or other substance(s) within 2 hours of sexual activity at least once in the past 3 months.

Participation Requirements

A baseline assessment involving an online interview with a clinician, online questionnaire, and in-person HIV and STI testing with a research nurse. 12 therapy sessions of one of two forms of therapy. One post-intervention and two follow-up assessments involving an online interview with a clinician, online questionnaire, and in-person HIV and STI testing with a research nurse, and an optional exit interview at post-intervention.

Compensation/Benefits

Free therapy and financial compensation for a total of $360 – 380 over the course of the study.
