Transform HF and T-CAIREM presents…
Workshop Description:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping healthcare—from how diseases are diagnosed to how care is delivered. As a patient partner in research, knowing when and how AI should be used is key to ensuring these tools serve real patient needs.
This session, delivered in partnership between T-CAIREM and TRANSFORM HF, isn’t about coding or technical design! Rather, it will focus on building confidence and critical thinking for engaging with AI-related research.
Through case studies and group discussions, we’ll unpack common uses of AI in medicine, explore risks such as bias and privacy, and highlight ways patient partners can actively shape research and implementation. Participants will reflect on trust, safety, and fairness, and consider how patient input can guide responsible AI.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
(1) Understand key concepts and common applications of AI in healthcare.
(2) Identify potential risks and limitations of AI tools.
(3) Recognize how patient and caregiver perspectives ensure research reflects community needs and values.
Applicant Eligibility & Selection:
This workshop is intended for patients, caregivers, or family members with lived experience of cardiovascular disease. Attendance is capped at 15 participants. Preference will be given to applicants who (1) have a basic understanding of health research in Canada, and (2) are currently participating in or plan to join a research team.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Nov. 2, 2025 (Sun.)
