The fourth COVID-10 webinar will explore the intersection of equity, rights and global health during the COVID-19 crisis. The COVID-19 crisis has brought to light the already pre-existing and underlying inequities in our health, social, economic and political systems.

Whose rights matter in times of crisis? How are governments, with varying degrees of resources, responding? Who is being disproportionally affected?

These are questions we seek to explore as Canada and countries around the world are challenged to re-organize their healthcare and other systems to face the immediate needs of their populations. Panellists will reflect on how responses to COVID-19 and post-pandemic need to prioritize equity and human rights, and contribute to a more economically, healthy and environmentally sustainable future.

These changes will also undoubtedly have an impact on global goals that nations have committed to supporting – the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In today’s discussion of equity, human rights, global health and the economy, we keep in mind the various SDGs that align with these notions and explore how the COVID-19 crisis could present as an opportunity for solidarity in achieving these global goals.
