Subtheme #1: Current Issues

  • Before looking to the future of public health, it is critical to consider the issues shaping the current landscape. Social inequity and the climate crisis are two significant issues inextricably linked to public health that have been exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic (which has dominated public health discourse since emerging in 2020).
  • Public health issues do not exist in a vacuum; the current pandemic, social inequity, and the climate crisis are complexly interwoven, interacting and compounding upon each other. As we ask ourselves, what’s next for public health?, it is essential to consider how these pressing issues of today will impact our practice into the future.

Subtheme #2: Knowledge Translation

  • Knowledge translation in public health involves the use of scientific evidence by decision-makers when generating health policies. Effectively and transparently putting knowledge into practice enables us to apply lessons learned as we move forward.

Subtheme #3: New Methods

  • Technology is ever-present in today’s society, permeating our everyday lives as well as our practice of public health. Harnessing technology and new methods can elevate public health practice as we navigate the pressing public health issues of today.
